Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to My World of Yarns and Tales! Greetings, knitting enthusiasts and curious minds alike! I’m Grannie Mercy, your guide on this journey through my world of knitting. Once upon a time, in the golden era of WordPress blogs, I had a little corner of the internet where I blogged about knitting (I think I started in about 2005. Alas, life, with its complex patterns, led me down various paths and away from blogging. But now, I’ve returned with new stories and stitches to share with you all!
The Stitching Together of Past and Present
Reflecting on the Past
Reflecting on the past, my initial foray into blogging was a modest endeavor, yet it was filled with enthusiasm and the joy of sharing. While the digital landscape was just blossoming, many of us were navigating this newfound world together—some have become icons, while others, like me, took a step back. Yet, here I am, needles ready, eager to knit new tales with you.
The Interlude
Without dwelling too much on the details, life brought great joy, immense challenges, and loads of adventures. Here’s a glimpse into my world during my hiatus:
- My family tree has flourished—my 6 children are now grown and I have 5 grandchildren (ages 4-14) adding joy and chaos in equal measure.
- And it has changed—my husband and I have been separated for many years.
- I’ve known fear when my sons were in combat zones (more than once), felt completely helpless in the face of a friend’s cancer diagnosis, experienced shock and relief with my own late-life ADHD diagnosis, and endured the loss of a good friend.
- Adventures and misadventures in travel and crafting have invigorated my spirit and kept my hands busy.
Through every twist and turn, every up and down, knitting has been a soothing balm and a creative outlet.
Embarking on a New Chapter
While the essence of knitting blogs remains timeless—a blend of personal journey, technical expertise, and communal sharing—my vision is to sprinkle in my unique zest, shaped by the journey that we call life. With “Grannie Mercy Knits,” I’m creating a space that captures the essence of our shared passion for knitting.

This blog is a WiP–over time, I expect there will be more. Won’t that be exciting?!
Dropped Stitches
I hate to even bring these things up, and honestly, I really don’t expect any problems. I debated long and hard about whether to include this at all, but better to make things clear up front. Things you won’t see here:
- Politics: I’m just as passionate and opinionated about my politics as the next needle-wielding human, but this is not the place for that.
- Hate: This place is for anyone and everyone who loves knitting. Period. That’s it. There will be ZERO tolerance for hate or bigotry in any form.
- Divisiveness: Anything that serves to divide us is not welcome here. Well, we can debate wood vs metal needles, wool vs cotton vs alpaca vs acrylic yarn…
- Disrespect: Diverse opinions on techniques, materials, and projects enrich our conversations, but there is no place here for personal attacks, demeaning, or belittling others in any way.
This is to be a supportive and encouraging environment, where every knitter feels valued and heard. When it comes to determining the content standard for this blog and what things violate that standard, it’s ultimately my opinion that counts. I am the authority.
Fostering Connection and Growth
The hope for a vibrant, interactive community is at the heart of this return to the world of blogging. Your stories, insights, and feedback will be the threads that enrich our tapestry. Though comments are moderated to maintain a respectful space, I look forward to your contributions and promise to engage with you with sincerity and openness.
A Pledge of Transparency

I believe in honest reviews and genuine recommendations, ensuring that our space remains one of trust and mutual respect. My opinions are my own and they are not for sale. By the way, the presence of google ads on this page does not equal endorsement of the advertised products.
